CMS or content management products are moving into the new era of the Web 2.0 technology, where rich internet connectivity and real time editing is the new way. I will take you through what is definitely the next generation of publishing. During some tedious searching for over 4 long days, I've found a few that measure up.
The requirements are simple:
A - Could be installed on a typical shared hosting setup - no Microsoft servers
B - Used Apache, PHP and MySql
C - Open source
D - Ajaxed framework
E - Inline editing in preview mode (real time editing)
F - Easy to administrate, install, including the management of media and content
I wanted Ajax for: the bandwidth efficiency, more intuitive interface, no page reloading when updating text and the option of an inline editor. Inline editing is also known as "real time editing." An inline editor allows you to edit the article or page from the presentation view. You do not leave the page to go to a text editor. Most CMS has a text editor operating in the back, you then get removed from the page layout. You often return with unexpected results.
I looked for over 4 days with keywords:
ajax cms open sourceThe search gave many projects that had a list of great features and but had dead links. they were no more. Projects that did not have their own web site nor community forum, were not considered.
Here are the open source CMS projects that seem to be candidates:
